Convergence Culture

Convergence Culture

Jenkin’s uses ‘Bert is Evil’ in his book, to demonstrate convergence culture, where high school student, Dino Ignacio used Photoshop to add ‘Sesame Street’s’ Bert into a series of influential images. The most popular image being one of Bert and Osama Bin Laden, the images became known world wide and were even being printed in Bangladesh. This also highlights ‘participatory culture’ where we are no longer just consumers or producers but we are participants and are expected to be able to interact accordingly. The way in which the image spread illustrates consumers participation, or none of this would have happened.
